Day #255

My apologies for not writing anything substantial as of late. Like you expected, I’m in the home stretch of a semester and various activities - if that’s what you call slave driving - have kept me busy. Let’s recount them, shall we?

POYi Competition
For those of you not already aware I’m in the process of working on a Digital Library prototype. The Picture of the Year International Competition is a photojournalism contest based here in Columbia, Missouri. Anyway, they have 35,000+ award winning photographs (chosen by a panel of Pulitzer winning judges) and need a new home for them. So Sean, a classmate, and myself are working toward that end. Dr. K, one of our professors, is directing the whole ordeal from a distance. We expect to have a presentation ready version up by the end of this month.

Wish us luck there!

Lincoln University
I am still filling in as a “Visiting [or Temporary] Cataloger” in Jefferson City. The previous Cataloger moved to California late last year so I’ve been helping them out. It’s been a wonderful learning experience and has given me a view of just how Academic Libraries work. Plus, there is always a demand for Catalogers out there, so if I can’t find a job working with digital resources then I have another marketable skill. I’m not sure what will happen at Lincoln next, but I am indebted to my-coworkers there.

My Life as a Student Life Graduate Assistant
Hectic. It seems like things are touch and go all of the time but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Dave my supervisor is extremely supportive and I’ve been able to support the student community too. The work is very rewarding. Mentioning that, I’m in the process of preparing a program for Emerging Leaders, coordinating a freshman community volunteer day, and setting up an online portfolio system.

School
Don’t get me started… At least until the end of the semester.

*Edit*

I am also now in the middle of a Wilco kick. I haven’t listened to anyone else for the past two days. It’s nice to find new music (or rediscover it) when you dig through your old belongings.
